Belly dancer Nasira

Having been given the gift of discovering this beautiful dance she simply wishes to
share it with the world.
Her journey began as a result of a school project on Egypt aged 8,.Showing such
a passion for the history a family friend who was a belly dancer offered to teach Nasira a little about
ancient Egyptian dance and to show her some moves.
….To this very day I thank you Mandy, your gift was one I’ve treasured ever since and
will continue to treasure for the rest of my life…..
Having previous tried ballet and tap but not really feeling it was right for her,
Nasira immediately connected with and fell in love with belly dancing. Lo and behold that simple class
project developed into a performance in front of the entire school and from there she was hooked.
Belly dancing came so very naturally, and simply felt so right for her and so her
hunger for further knowledge and progression lead to her beginning classes with well known expert Egyptian
dancer Teresa Griffin. A beautiful dancer, who embalms the true beauty of Egyptian movement inspired a then
young Nasira showing her the art of amazing cabaret style dancing.
Having learnt dance with Teresa for a year she then went on to begin classes with Gay
Cardwell. Gay brought new light to Egyptian dance, being a very different style dancer and teacher, very
earthy, grounded and with excellent choreography skills.

Nasira gained further knowledge learning about traditional folky styles, and
incorporating props and understanding the different styles of both dance and music in which to use them,
including Egyptian cane dancing and veil work.
Her development with Gay continued for a few years, whilst also having private tuition
from Moona.
Her passion never went away and she continued to find any information she could,
books, old VHS video tapes, describing the dance (the internet was not then heard of so it was more difficult
to obtain).
Nasira was always told she was a born teacher, her whole school life had consisted of
helping others, she always knew that teaching was something she truly wanted to do and her 4year veterinary
career provided her with many opportunities to guest lecture at colleges all over the south and teach many
different types of people giving her a great grounding for understanding how to teach, how to communicate
with people and how to get the best out of pupils through encouragement and different training
methods.
Combining teaching and the longest passion of her life has meant that Nasira feels she
gets just as much out of her classes teaching as her pupils do. And this is shown by her classes and how
popular they are.
Some years later, having gained knowledge from other teachers, and now having the
benefits of the internet Nasira started performing in public displays and events with another teacher and
through popular demand from fellow dancers decided that she would begin to help others learn the further
knowledge they desired. Thus began her teaching career in 2008.
She has attended many different workshops throughout the country including Egyptian,
Turkish and Lebanese styles and continues to do so to keep up to date with further techniques , developments
in the world of middle eastern dance and gain as much practical knowledge as possible.
Nasira is also a very keen Salsa dancer and in her spare time actually runs her own
car body shop “Blitz Bodyshop” in Fareham.
This has gained her the affectionately title of the
“Flash dance Belly
dancer”.
A film based on an extraordinary girl who is a welder by day and comes alive at night
as an exceptional ballet dancer is easily comparable to Nasira who works hard repairing car bodywork during
the day, and transforms into Belly dancer Nasira.
Nasira is a very expressive , sensual dancer whose elegance combined with hypnotic
movements captivates her audience with her performances
She is a member of MADN the Mosaic Arabic Dance Network
